“Beauty is the harmony of function and form.” - Alvar Aalto

Designed for an active young family, the principal living spaces of the home are organized around a central concrete wall and open-riser staircase. On the main floor, the staircase and concrete wall divide the kitchen and dining space from the living area and home office, a layout which serves the family well with their busy schedules. The garden at the back of the house becomes an extension of the living space. On the upper floor, the master bedroom overlooks a mature eucalyptus tree making it feel like a tree house.

The authenticity of the material palette, which includes white oak, concrete, pure white quartz and subtle steel accents, strengthens the clarity and purity of the space and allows the natural environment and surrounding landscape to permeate the interior. White walls serve as a backdrop for vibrant art, plants, and shadow play from the passing sun. Focus and attention were paid to interior detailing including custom millwork, floating white oak treads, and lighting. Every detail in the house has been carefully considered to create harmony, precision and warmth.
