The design brief for this project was to resurrect the beauty and function of an original Fernwood Craftsman home by converting the existing duplex to a four-unit strata residence. Each unit contains their own unique layout with slight variations in design, offering a rare housing opportunity at the heart of the iconic Fernwood neighbourhood.
The thoughtful design creates a unifying calm across all units that when presented together, read as a composition. The interiors feature a serene palette of off-white, muted greys and delicate greens, warmed by white oak flooring and millwork. A gentle layering of textures is achieved through the backsplash tile in the kitchens and accent tile in the bathrooms, beautiful brushed nickel hardware, chrome plumbing fixtures and carefully curated lighting throughout.
All available area has been utilized for functional storage such as an entry nook in the garden suite, seating with built-in storage in the kitchen on the main level suite, and media cabinets in all units which provide a place for everything. A meticulously planned lighting layout anticipates homeowners’ needs by offering a layered approach with general, ambient, and task lighting.
The result is a design that captures the essence of the building’s original artistry while integrating functional and modern design features.
